Participants put on headphones, and a recorded voice guided them through an hour of instructions and science fiction ambience, separated into six “levels”. The voice promoted the idea of giving up responsibility of one’s self to an artificial intelligence. Up to four participants at a time moved though an activity area, completing tasks as directed by “The Machine”. The final task involved moving hands to different positions on a 10-hour clock—an homage to Fritz Lang’s Metropolis.
