Control Your Animations from the Beach

Who controls the left screen, controls the right screen. And also the center screen.

It’s an ordinary, boring IT thing to control a computer remotely. But when each of three terminal windows is hooked up to a 173-inch monitor, it becomes as nifty as PcAnywhere in 1993. “Ooh, I’ll get all my work done on the beach now!”

Well, I am almost there with the big screen hookup. Got my three rendering boxes configed and remote-controllable. These boxes were two thick to fit on my 12-foot-high shelves. One half inch too thick. Damn. So I had to put them down on the ground. And that made the HDMI cables I owned too short to hook up rendering boxes to the projectors. So I ordered three longer ones to ship out to me.

For immediate gratification, I could have gone to a retail store to buy HDMI cables. But unfortunately, retailers think it is a brilliant practice to skyjack the price on these commodities. If you go into Best Buy, they’ve got HDMI cables on every other endcap, hoping some fool will accidentally buy one at triple the fair price.

So I am waiting. Checking the UPS tracking URL. I think I’ll have the cables tomorrow. Possibly, Wednesday. And then… Majesty.
