Rewarding Failure

Sharon bleeved in me first!

Sweetening the pot on my Kickstarter for Machine Court: Even if my project is not 100% funded, all backers will get a reward. On Kickstarter, rewards are normally “all or nothing”.

That reward is a handwritten “thank you” note on a piece of paper that has project notes or sketches on it from Machine Court-related work. I got scads of these crazy man notes littering up the place. They aren’t works of art or filled with insights. But they are interesting enough that I’m reluctant to throw them away. A good background to scrawl a note on, I think.

It occurs to me that this can seem defeatist. I spent five seconds just now analyzing it, and decided I didn’t care.

In other news, I’m working on the architecture for the rendering component of Machine Court. It is a unique way of scripting interactive animation that borrows its structure from screenplays and theater. I’ll post more about that later.
