A Cast of Twenty-One

Rahul creates parts for an animated Kuntzler.

Today, I’m just doing concept art for the 21 animated characters in Machine Horror House. Yesterday, I made a detailed list of parts for each character (e.g. body, arms, legs, etc.) with instructions on how to put them together. The concept art and part list go to the character designers (Rahul Sonker and Firoz Panna), and they build a Photoshop file that contains the animation-ready assets.

To the left, you can see a slide show of Rahul working in Photoshop on Kuntzler. Because I didn’t make it clear that Kuntzler is a robot, he’s got flesh-colored skin instead of something more artificial. But that is easy enough to fix. Can’t blame Rahul, since how many robots wear human clothes?

Speaking of Kuntzler… Somewhere in Idaho, Bettina Throckmorton is drawing a laboratory for Kuntzler to hang out in. It’s looking good. Like “Curse of Monkey Island” good. And just today, I got Kuntzler’s nerdy scientist voice from Marc Rose at MJR SounDesign, along with processed and edited voices for the other characters. So it is coming together!
